Yahoo Launches OpenID 2.0

The Yahoo! OpenID (beta) which was announced earlier this month has just been launched. You can try it out right away.

This is expected to move the OpenID movement ahead considerably. All 250 million members of Yahoo are now able to log in to any website, not just Yahoo, that supports OpenID 2.0.

At this moment you can find very limited list at Yahoo which I hope will be expanded soon.

  1. This whole idea of OpenID scares me a bit in terms of security, as it will likely be a target.

For the time being I wouldn’t mind using it on a set of low-risk sites though for random logins, but I wouldn’t use it for email, paypal, etc.

  2. I doubt it can compete with the newer versions of msn messenger, but its a start. Its a pretty cool feature aswell.

  3. Ya, we can’t trust it as much as to use it for risky things like PayPal etc., because definitely it’d be a target for spammers etc.
