Google Interested In Setting Up Base In Malaysia
US search-engine giant Google is interested in setting up a base in Malaysia, Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said, according to reports Sunday.
“They want to make their presence felt in Malaysia. It will be a big boost for our ICT industry,” he told reporters after meeting Google Chief Executive Eric Schmidt on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
Earlier reports here said that Google was looking at Malaysia, India or Vietnam to establish the world’s biggest server farm — a cluster of powerful computers used to store data.
Abdullah said Malaysia ranked as the top users of Google in Southeast Asia, which was another reason why it would make sense to use the country as a base for its operations.

thats really a good news. i htink google will only expand with ths move. and not to mention the huge boost the IT industry would receive on this side of the world.
Personally, I’m not sure if a server farm - especially the world’s biggest one, should be created in Southeast Asia. This region is more likely to be hit by natural disasters and would require more upkeep and safety measures to be put in place.
it would be great if they place their base in cyberjaya
